Buddy has launched a new insurance distribution partnership with Stripe, enabling carriers and managing general agents (MGAs) to distribute bindable commercial insurance products directly to businesses operating on Stripe.
Announced at the Insurtech Insights USA 2026 in New York, the launch introduces a new insurance collection within the Stripe App Marketplace, allowing businesses to apply for, quote, bind, and pay for commercial cover without leaving the Stripe platform.
The initial rollout includes commercial insurance products such as general liability and cyber liability cover, with additional commercial lines expected to be added over time.
The integration is powered by Buddy’s ION Engine, which standardises insurance products into a common data language and distribution framework. Through a Buddy-to-Stripe App protocol connection, any insurance product indexed on Buddy’s platform becomes immediately distributable to Stripe merchants without requiring additional technical integrations.
The partnership addresses one of the insurance sector’s longstanding infrastructure challenges, where carriers have traditionally relied on bespoke integrations for each new distribution channel or product line.
Buddy said its ION Engine enables carriers to onboard products in minutes rather than months by creating a standardised taxonomy for insurance commerce and distribution. This means products distributed through Stripe can also be deployed simultaneously across direct digital channels, broker networks, and AI-powered distribution models.
Charles Merritt said: “The technology of insurance distribution has lagged behind the broader tech market. Every new channel and insurance product has meant a new software development project for the carrier and the platform.
“Our work with Stripe is proof that a different model is possible: index a product once in our ION Engine, and that product can reach businesses on Stripe, your own direct channel, your agent network, and AI agents through Buddy MCP — all from the same data.”
Buddy currently works with carriers and brokers including Allstate, Great American Insurance Group, Aon, W. R. Berkley, and Chubb.
According to the company, platforms using Buddy’s insurance commerce layer have recorded between 14% and 42% increases in conversion from first customer interaction to policy binding.
The launch reflects continued momentum in embedded insurance distribution, as carriers and MGAs seek scalable ways to distribute commercial products through digital ecosystems already used by businesses. For Stripe merchants, the integration creates a more seamless route to obtaining business cover at the point where financial and operational services are already managed.
