Effective November 1, Michael Garrison will assume an expanded role, overseeing the International division alongside his existing responsibilities as head of the U.S. wholesale organisation. Additionally, Rick Ciullo has been named head of Global Specialty’s U.S. retail businesses, extending his oversight beyond Bond and Credit & Political Risk to include Environmental, Financial Lines, Ocean Marine, Livestock, and related retail-focused distribution channels.
Both Garrison and Ciullo will continue to report directly to Adrien Robinson, Head of Global Specialty at The Hartford. Robinson highlighted the strategic benefits of the new appointments, stating, “These leadership appointments bring together complementary business units to enhance innovation and serve the growing needs of our customers and distribution partners with a full suite of products and risk solutions. Organising Global Specialty into unified teams under Michael and Rick enables us to respond swiftly to market dynamics while preserving our ability to deliver tailored solutions through specific distribution channels.”
The Hartford’s Global Specialty division provides specialised insurance and risk solutions across a broad range of industries worldwide. Its offerings include Cyber, Bond, Environmental, Directors & Officers liability, Errors & Omissions liability, Ocean Marine, Credit & Political Risk, Livestock, and other coverage options designed for businesses of all sizes.
Garrison, who joined The Hartford’s subsidiary Navigators in 2021, has since been instrumental in driving strategic growth within the wholesale channel. In his new capacity, Carl Bach, head of International and CEO of Hartford Underwriting Agency Limited (the managing agency for Syndicate 1221 at Lloyd’s of London), will report to him.
Ciullo, who has led The Hartford’s Bond business since 2016, brings extensive experience in providing surety products to a broad spectrum of clients, from small enterprises to Fortune 500 companies. The leadership team reporting to Ciullo remains unchanged.
Robinson emphasised the company’s focus on remaining agile and customer-focused within a rapidly changing insurance landscape: “With the pace of technology-driven change, structuring around distribution channels will help Global Specialty stay innovative and adaptable, leveraging new technologies and processes that best serve our distinct customer bases. I am proud of the high caliber of talent in the Global Specialty business, which is well-positioned to navigate this evolving landscape.”
