The facility provides up to €1 billion in construction all-risks coverage and an additional €350 million in cover for delay in start-up, offering broad protection for developers and operators navigating the demands of building mission-critical infrastructure.
Supported by a consortium of insurers from Lloyd’s and company markets in London and across Europe, Nimbus consolidates a range of coverages into a single, streamlined solution. This includes traditional construction all-risks, property damage, business interruption, and delay in start-up insurance—components that are essential for managing the complex risk landscape of large-scale digital infrastructure projects.
The launch comes at a time when data centre construction is booming throughout the region, driven by exponential growth in demand for processing and storage power. “Data centres are fast becoming the fourth utility and are the engine rooms of the global economy,” said Kelly Looney, UK CEO, Construction, Infrastructure & Surety at Marsh Specialty. “Given the crucial role they now play in telecommunications, computer systems, and data storage, it is essential that their construction is completed on time and on budget.”
According to Marsh, Nimbus offers clients simplified access to specialised coverage from A-rated insurers with favourable terms and conditions, helping organisations manage critical assets more confidently. “Nimbus provides clients with project-specific coverage via a streamlined process that expedites the delivery of data centre construction projects and ensures a seamless transition to operational readiness,” Looney added.
Nimbus builds on Marsh’s broader offering of Data Centre Insurance and Risk Management Services, which was launched recently to address the evolving needs of data centre operators and their supply chains. These services are designed to provide tailored insurance and risk solutions across the full lifecycle of data centre development and operation, from site selection and construction to commissioning and day-to-day operations.
With data infrastructure becoming increasingly vital to global connectivity and business continuity, Marsh’s latest offering positions it at the forefront of enabling secure and timely delivery of essential digital infrastructure across Europe.
