FWD Group has been making significant strides in the Malaysian market since acquiring a controlling stake in FWD Takaful in 2019. Binayak Dutta, Managing Director of FWD Group, expressed confidence in Aman Chowla’s leadership abilities and his ability to drive growth and innovation at FWD Takaful.
He said: “Aman has strong leadership capabilities that we’re looking forward to leveraging at FWD Takaful. As a customer-led company, we aim to meet the protection needs of Malaysians with Shariah-compliant products and drive the next phase of growth, scale and innovation in our business.”
Chowla brings over two decades of experience in the life and general insurance industry to his new role. He has been with FWD since last year, serving as CEO of FWD Insurance Berhad.
Chowla first joined FWD last year as CEO for FWD Insurance Berhad and has over 20 years of experience in the life and general insurance industry. He said, “I look forward to leading our efforts in changing the way people feel about takaful in Malaysia, while further scaling our business and contributions to the community.”
Salim Majid Zain, who has been Chief Executive Officer, FWD Takaful, since 2019, will retire.
“Salim has been instrumental in building our takaful business since our journey in Malaysia started five years ago and we wish him a happy and healthy retirement,” said Dutta.
Expansion into Malaysia
In 2023, FWD Group created a full-service offering in Malaysia, with both family takaful and life insurance solutions with its establishment of FWD Insurance Berhad.
Dutta explained: “We’re thrilled to welcome Mak to FWD. His experience in leading and developing strategies to build businesses that are innovative and customer-led will be invaluable as we scale up our nascent Malaysian life insurance business.”
Sen brings over 24 years of industry experience, including senior roles in multinational insurance companies such as Manulife and Prudential, driving transformation and managing agency distribution in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and the Greater Bay Area, China.
Commenting on the new role, he said: “Aman and the FWD Insurance team have built incredible momentum in their first year. I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place to provide accessible and easy to understand insurance solutions to more Malaysians.”
Recently, FWD co-located its insurance and takaful entities together in a world-class facility in Kuala Lumpur and strengthened its commitment to the Malaysian community by partnering with local organisations to expand financial literacy. Earlier this year, FWD Group also introduced its award-winning financial literacy programme in Malaysia, JA SparktheDream, which operates in eight markets in Asia.
