AI insurance platform Federato has expanded into Asia-Pacific and Japan, launching regional operations with a new Sydney office and appointing former Guidewire executive Roland Slee as Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).

The expansion brings Federato’s AI-native insurance platform to commercial insurers and managing general agents (MGAs) across the region, initially targeting Australia and New Zealand before expanding into Singapore, Japan and South Korea.

The company said its platform, already deployed by Fortune 100 insurance carriers in the United States, supports the full insurance policy lifecycle, enabling insurers to apply artificial intelligence across underwriting, portfolio management and claims operations.

Regional Expansion Targets Commercial Insurance Market

Federato’s initial focus will be commercial lines insurers and MGAs, reflecting growing demand across Asia-Pacific for AI-driven underwriting and operational decision-making.

The company believes the region represents one of the world’s largest insurance markets, with its five priority markets collectively generating hundreds of billions of dollars in gross written premium annually.

“Asia Pacific is one of the most significant insurance markets on earth. Combined, the region’s priority markets generate hundreds of billions of dollars in gross written premium annually,” said Roland Slee, Regional Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan.

“Insurance executives across Asia Pacific have moved past asking whether AI matters. The carriers and MGAs I’ve spoken with here are sophisticated, well-capitalised, and eager to explore the improved business outcomes Federato’s AI-native platform has delivered in the rest of the world.”

Former Guidewire Executive to Lead APJ Growth

To support its regional expansion, Federato has appointed Slee to lead operations across Asia-Pacific and Japan.

Slee brings extensive insurance technology experience, having previously led Guidewire’s business across Asia-Pacific and Japan for four years. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly two decades in Asia-Pacific sales leadership at Oracle before leading Bravura Solutions’ Sonata platform, where he helped grow the business from 1% to 26% of the company’s global revenues.

Based in Sydney, Slee will oversee Federato’s expansion strategy as the company establishes its presence across the region.

“As an ex-Guidewire executive who has spent his career in this market, Roland is deeply familiar with what insurers need and the challenges they face trying to make progress with legacy systems,” said Will Ross, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Federato.

“Federato is fully committed to serving insurers across APAC and Japan, and Roland Slee is key to this effort.”

AI Adoption Shifts From Experimentation to Core Insurance Operations

Federato said insurers across Asia-Pacific are increasingly looking beyond pilot projects and exploring how artificial intelligence can be deployed across core insurance operations.

Rather than focusing on isolated use cases, the company’s AI-native platform is designed to support underwriting, portfolio optimization, policy management and claims across the entire insurance lifecycle.

The expansion reflects a broader shift within the insurance industry, where carriers are increasingly seeking AI platforms capable of integrating with existing core systems while improving underwriting performance and operational efficiency.

Strengthening Presence in Asia-Pacific

The Sydney office marks Federato’s first permanent presence in Asia-Pacific and forms part of the company’s broader international growth strategy.

The company is also serving as the Presenting Sponsor at ITC Asia 2026, where it will showcase its AI-native platform to insurers and insurance technology leaders across the region.

As insurers continue investing in AI-powered decision-making, Federato aims to help carriers modernize underwriting and claims operations while overcoming the limitations of legacy technology platforms.
