Aon has appointed José María Navas as Chief Claims Officer for EMEA, as the broker continues to strengthen its regional claims capabilities amid growing complexity in the risk landscape.

In his new role, Navas will lead Aon’s claims organisation across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, overseeing strategy, claims advocacy, and preparation capabilities aimed at helping clients navigate increasingly sophisticated claims environments.

He will also play a central role in advancing Aon’s claims capabilities across the region, including the adoption of Aon Claims Copilot, the broker’s recently expanded global claims platform. The technology combines claims data, analytics, and digital claims management tools to support more consistent, insight-led outcomes throughout the claims lifecycle.

Navas will report to Luca Tassarotti.

The appointment marks the latest step in Aon’s investment in claims services, an area increasingly viewed by brokers and carriers as a key differentiator as clients face heightened exposure to cyber incidents, natural catastrophes, supply chain disruption, and regulatory risks.

Navas brings nearly 25 years of experience at Aon to the role. Most recently, he served as Chief Claims Officer in Spain, where he led a team of 120 professionals responsible for delivering claims services to policyholders.

Prior to that, he headed Aon’s Construction & Infrastructures practice in Spain and served as Executive Director at Aon Consulting Services, S.A.U. (Asevasa). During his tenure, he played a significant role in strengthening claims servicing capabilities for large and complex losses, while deepening insurer relationships and enhancing operational delivery.

Tassarotti said: “José María’s appointment reflects our continued investment in delivering strong claims outcomes for clients across EMEA. His experience and leadership will advance how we support clients across the risk transfer lifecycle, helping them navigate complexity with greater confidence.”

Mona Barnes added: “Claims is central to the value we deliver for clients. José María’s appointment reflects the strength of our internal talent pipeline and our focus on differentiating Aon through leading claims capabilities across Risk Capital, from placement through to resolution.”

Navas said: “I’m honoured to step into this role and to work alongside our teams to continue enhancing the claims experience for our clients. Delivering strong outcomes when it matters most is central to the value we bring, and I look forward to building on that momentum.”

The appointment reflects broader investment across the broking sector in claims advocacy and technology-enabled servicing, as firms seek to combine specialist expertise with digital tools to improve client outcomes and strengthen retention.
