Liberty Mutual has been testing a ChatGPT integration that enables users to request auto insurance quote estimates directly within the ChatGPT interface, signalling a potential new distribution channel for insurance shopping.
Screenshots of the experience showed users interacting conversationally with prompts such as requesting an auto quote, reviewing vehicle details, or adding drivers during the quote process. The tool displayed estimated monthly premiums alongside vehicle summaries and driver information before directing users to continue the purchase journey on Liberty Mutual’s website.
The onboarding flow described the experience as a Liberty Mutual-powered tool inside ChatGPT built to deliver “fast, personalized auto insurance quote estimates” using limited customer information. While quote estimates were surfaced within ChatGPT, policy purchases, issuance, customer support, and claims handling remained within Liberty Mutual’s own platforms.
The pilot also included data-sharing disclosures explaining that information entered in the chat could be shared with Liberty Mutual, affiliated entities, and service providers to generate quote estimates.
The feature appears to have since been removed, suggesting the integration remains in a testing phase or is undergoing further refinement ahead of a broader rollout.
The experiment highlights growing insurer interest in embedding insurance experiences into AI assistants and conversational interfaces as carriers explore new digital acquisition and servicing models.
