Liberty Mutual Reinsurance Group (LM Re) has appointed Tom Spurgeon as Global Head of Cyber Reinsurance, reinforcing its focus on expanding its global cyber reinsurance business.
Spurgeon succeeds Ivonne Staisch, who has left the company after seven years to pursue new opportunities.
Leading global cyber portfolio growth
Based in London, Spurgeon will report to Susan Barber, Head of Financial Risks, Reinsurance at LM Re.
In his new role, he will be responsible for the continued growth of LM Re’s global cyber reinsurance portfolio while working with brokers and clients to develop structured cyber reinsurance solutions.
Internal promotion
Spurgeon has spent the past nine years with Liberty Mutual Reinsurance Group and has played an active role in the wider cyber reinsurance market.
Most recently, he was recognised for his leadership within the International Underwriting Association (IUA) of London Cyber Reinsurance Committee.
Earlier in his career, he held underwriting roles at Catlin and Chaucer Syndicates. He also served as Chair of the Cyber Reinsurance Committee of the International Underwriting Association of London from 2022 to 2025.
