Zurich Insurance has deployed a new Global Rating Engine built on Solveva’s Actus platform, marking the first milestone in a broader programme to modernise its commercial insurance pricing infrastructure.

The new engine went live on 1 May 2026, just months after the partnership was announced. Zurich plans to extend the platform across additional lines of business and geographic regions over the coming months.
Modernising commercial insurance pricing
The Global Rating Engine is designed to help Zurich’s underwriters and actuaries develop, maintain and deploy pricing models more efficiently.
According to the companies, the platform enables users to:
- Run pricing calculations more quickly.
- Update pricing models with less development effort.
- Maintain governance, auditability and control over pricing data and algorithms.
- Support consistent deployment across global commercial insurance operations.
The implementation forms part of Zurich’s broader strategy to modernise its pricing technology while creating a platform capable of supporting future underwriting and pricing requirements.
Why Zurich selected Actus
Zurich said it selected Solveva’s Actus platform for its combination of performance, modular architecture and configurability.
The platform also supports a “use-your-own-cloud” deployment model, allowing insurers to run the technology within their preferred cloud environment rather than relying on a vendor-managed infrastructure.
Beyond the rating engine itself, Zurich has already implemented several supporting capabilities on the Actus platform, including:
- Scenario analysis
- Master data management
- Calculation administration
Additional functionality is expected to be introduced as the rollout continues.
Executive comments
Penny Seach, Commercial Insurance International Chief Underwriting Officer, and Jan Ellerbrock, Chief Technology Officer for Commercial Insurance at Zurich, said the new platform provides greater flexibility across the company’s global commercial insurance operations.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Solveva to re-platform our global pricing engines. The modularity and agility provided by Actus gives us great flexibility in how we deploy and maintain pricing engines across our large commercial and middle-market businesses.”
Rouven Oberholzer, CEO and founder of Solveva, described the deployment as a significant milestone for both companies.
“Delivering a global rating engine of this scope alongside Zurich is a milestone we are proud of. It demonstrates what Actus is designed to do: give re/insurers a flexible, future-proof foundation for their core pricing and underwriting.”
Supporting underwriting transformation
The project reflects a broader trend across the commercial insurance sector as insurers replace legacy pricing systems with more flexible, cloud-enabled platforms.
Modern rating engines increasingly serve as the core of underwriting operations, enabling carriers to deploy pricing changes more rapidly, improve governance and model transparency, and support advanced analytics and AI-driven underwriting initiatives. By standardising its pricing infrastructure globally, Zurich aims to improve operational agility while maintaining consistent pricing governance across its international commercial insurance business.
