De Nil will take on this role with immediate effect, while retaining his current responsibilities as CEO Benelux, therby expanding his management oversight in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
He succeeds David Haak, who will take on the role of Strategic Advisor to the EMEA leadership team.
De Nil first joined Zurich in 2008 in Hong Kong as Chief Operating Officer for the Asia Pacific region.
He went on to become Head of Operations, Property & Casualty and later Head of Sales and Distribution, Property & Casualty, before moving to Morocco in 2014. He has served as CEO Benelux since February 2018.
Haak, meanwhile, joined Zurich in Sweden in 2004 in his early professional career and rejoined the company in 2010 as Country Manager Sweden. He became CEO of Nordics in 2013.
Going forward, De Nil will continue to report to both James Shea, CEO for Commercial Insurance, and Neil Freshwater, CEO of Zurich Insurance plc, Zurich’s main legal entity for writing non-life insurance business in Europe, based in Ireland.
