Verisk has acquired McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), a UK-based provider of geospatial intelligence and event-response analytics, expanding its catastrophe risk and claims capabilities with real-time disaster intelligence.

The acquisition brings MIS into Verisk’s Catastrophe and Risk Solutions business, combining its rapid post-event damage assessment and geospatial analysis with Verisk’s catastrophe models, risk analytics and claims solutions.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and Verisk said the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results.

Founded in London, MIS provides insurers, reinsurers, brokers and loss adjusters with real-time intelligence following natural catastrophes and conflict events. Its platform aggregates and analyses multiple geospatial data sources to support property-level damage assessments, claims triage, portfolio exposure analysis, loss estimation and litigation support.

The acquisition will also strengthen Verisk’s capabilities in strike, riot and civil commotion (SRCC) and political violence risk by incorporating incident-level intelligence as events unfold.

Rob Newbold, President of Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions, said the combination would help insurers respond more effectively during major loss events.

“Verisk and MIS share a commitment to helping clients make faster, more confident decisions before, during, and after catastrophic events.”

He added:

“By bringing MIS’s real-time geospatial intelligence together with Verisk’s catastrophe models, risk analytics, and claims solutions, we can give clients a more complete view of unfolding events so they can assess impacts, prioritize response and support policyholders more effectively.”

MIS founder Forbes McKenzie said the companies had already collaborated prior to the acquisition.

“We’ve worked with Verisk to integrate real-time event data for rapid accumulation analysis, so it felt like a natural fit to join the team, especially as catastrophes grow increasingly disruptive around the world.”

He added that combining MIS’s event intelligence with Verisk’s modelling and claims capabilities would help insurers better support customers during catastrophic events.

The acquisition will become part of Verisk’s broader catastrophe risk modelling, global loss index and analytics portfolio, alongside Verisk Maplecroft’s external risk monitoring capabilities. The combined offering is intended to provide insurers and other clients with a more comprehensive view of emerging risks across operations, supply chains and investments.

The deal follows Verisk’s continued investment in catastrophe risk technology, including the launch of Verisk Synergy Studio, a cloud-native platform for catastrophe modelling and exposure management, and its 2025 acquisition of Verisk Model Exchange, which expanded its capabilities for evaluating multiple independent catastrophe models.

As insurers face increasing losses from severe weather, geopolitical instability and other complex risks, demand continues to grow for real-time intelligence that can improve catastrophe response, claims management and portfolio risk assessment.
