He succeeds Frieder Knüpling, who stepped down from the role in July 2024. As CEO of the L&H business, Rüede’s immediate focus will be on executing SCOR’s updated strategy, announced during the company’s Investor Day in December 2024. Key priorities include driving new business growth, preserving in-force value, and improving the division’s cash profile.
A dual Swiss and German national, Rüede brings over two decades of experience spanning banking and reinsurance. He holds degrees from École Polytechnique in Paris and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich). His career began in 1999 at Bank Vontobel in Zurich, followed by senior roles in equity derivatives at CS First Boston. In 2010, he became a Partner at Arbillon Capital AG, a Swiss electronic trading firm.
Rüede entered the reinsurance sector in 2013 when he joined Swiss Re as Head of Reinsurance Capital Management. He later served as Global Head of P&C Structured Solutions and, from 2019, led the Alternative Capital Partners team, working across P&C and L&H to strengthen capital efficiency and risk management.
“Philipp will bring very valuable and complementary skills to SCOR,” said Thierry Léger, CEO of SCOR. “With his extensive experience and wide-ranging expertise, Philipp has all the qualities required to continue the transformation of our L&H business, restore its profitability, and improve its cash profile. The whole Executive Committee joins me in welcoming Philipp and wishing him every success in his new responsibilities.”
