From top-level executive appointments at established giants like Lloyd's to the recruitment of specialised data scientists and cybersecurity leaders, the industry is making bold moves in its talent strategy.

Company: Zurich

Move: Zurich Insurance Promotes Alex Todd to Chief Underwriting Officer APAC

Zurich Insurance has announced the promotion of Alex Todd to Chief Underwriting Officer for Asia Pacific (APAC).

Todd brings over 20 years of industry experience, specializing in Property with a focus on the APAC region, to his new role. He joined Zurich Insurance in August 2023 as Head of Short-Tail Lines, APAC.

Prior to Zurich, Todd served as Head of Property, Asia, at Chubb for over two years. He also held various leadership positions within Property at AIG for nine years, most recently as Head of Commercial Property, APAC.

Move: Spectrum.Life Appoints Ian Ranger as Head of Insurance 

Ranger will be primarily responsible for developing, managing and expanding the insurance client base in UK and Ireland 

Spectrum.Life, a global partner in digital whole-of-health solutions, announces the appointment of Ian Ranger as Head of Insurance for the UK and Ireland. 

With over 17 years of experience in the Protection market, including roles at Canada Life and MetLife, Ranger brings strong expertise in forging meaningful partnerships and driving innovation in the insurance sector. His deep knowledge of the insurance and broker landscape positions him to lead Spectrum.Life’s growth in this critical market. 

In his role, Ian Ranger will drive insurers’ strategic priorities, fostering strong relationships with key industry stakeholders. He will drive the company’s growth and development of the insurance channel across the UK and Ireland, while building and enhancing strategic partnerships with insurers, intermediaries, and wellbeing providers to deliver impactful and innovative solutions.

Move: Sherman Power Appointed Executive Vice President, Alternative Risk and Capital Solutions

Price Forbes Re (PF Re) has announce the appointment of Sherman Power to the newly created role of Executive Vice President, Alternative Risk and Capital Solutions. Based in Dallas, Texas, he will report to Pat Rastiello, CEO Price Forbes Re, North America.

In his new role, Power will work closely with the treaty reinsurance team to provide growth capital and reserve covers in building PF Re’s reinsurance capacity for evolving and growing insurance markets. He brings almost three decades of experience in insurance and reinsurance, both in underwriting and broking, to PF Re.

Sherman joins from Aon Re, where he led the US structured solutions team and served as global head of innovation, Capital Advisory. Prior to that, he led the Regional & Large Structured Solutions team for Swiss Re US. He has also during his career held numerous senior roles and managed a variety of teams across multiple business classes.

Move: BMS Re Appoints Jonathan Hughes and Martin Bartell

BMS Re, the reinsurance arm of independent insurance and reinsurance broker BMS Group, has announced two senior appointments. Jonathan Hughes and Martin Bartell join BMS from Howden Re and will be based in London. Both will report directly to Hannah Watkins, Chief Growth Officer. 

Jonathan Hughes joins BMS Re as managing director – non-marine reinsurance. Hughes brings three decades of experience to the role across major industry players including Guy Carpenter, Axis and Aon. Most recently, he held the role of managing director and retro broker.  

Martin Bartell joins BMS Re as director – non-marine reinsurance. He began his career as a broker in 1986 at Alexander Howden. Previous employers also include Benfield, Gallagher Re and Aon. He spent the last decade working as a broker in the UK specialty and retro desk.

Move: SiriusPoint names James Anderson as Global Chief Pricing Actuary

SiriusPoint has announced the appointment of James Anderson as Global Chief Pricing Actuary, effective May 12, 2025. Based in London, Anderson will report to Group Chief Underwriting Officer Anthony Shapella and Chief Actuary Justin Brenden. His responsibilities will include leading the global actuarial pricing team, driving portfolio analytics, and collaborating with IT to enhance pricing infrastructure.

Anderson joins SiriusPoint from EY, where he served as a partner advising London Market companies on pricing and portfolio management. Prior to EY, he spent 11 years at Allianz, most recently as Deputy Chief Pricing Actuary. He also held previous roles at Brit Insurance and Swiss Re.

Move: Swiss Re CorSo appoints Katie McGrath as CUO

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has appointed Katie McGrath as Chief Underwriting Officer and implemented a new organisational structure featuring Market Units. This restructuring is designed to enhance service to corporate clients and brokers at the country level.

McGrath, with over 25 years of experience in commercial insurance, joined Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in 2019 as Head of Accident & Health North America and was subsequently appointed CEO of North America in 2022.

In her new role, McGrath will remain based in New York and report to Ivan Gonzalez, CEO of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

Move: Steven Hearn Appointed Brown & Brown Chief Operating Officer

Brown & Brown, an insurance brokerage firm, has appointed Steven Hearn as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Hearn, a veteran of the insurance and reinsurance industry, joined Brown & Brown as a Director in 2024. His appointment follows his tenure as Chief Executive Officer at Inver Re, Ardonagh Group’s reinsurance broking unit, from November 2021 to July 2024.

In conjunction with his new role, Hearn has resigned from Brown & Brown’s board of directors and joined the company’s operating committee. He will utilise his 35 years of industry experience to contribute to Brown & Brown’s ongoing growth strategy.

Move: Beazley Appoints Sara Foucher as Head of Commercial Property, Europe

Beazley, a specialty insurer, has entered the European commercial property market with the appointment of Sara Foucher as Head of Commercial Property, Europe, effective immediately.  

In her new role, Foucher will be responsible for leading the expansion of Beazley’s property team and product offerings within the European region. She will also focus on developing specialized solutions to address increasing market demand.  

Foucher will be based in Paris and report to Richard Montminy, Group Head of Property Risks. Montminy highlighted the need for specialist property insurance solutions in Europe due to climate risks and rising asset values.

Move: AXA XL Names Simon Rees Chief Underwriting Officer for North America Programs

AXA XL, the property and casualty and specialty risk division of AXA, has announced the appointment of Simon Rees as Chief Underwriting Officer, North America Programs.  

Effective April 1st, Rees will report to Tim Whisler, Wholesale Solutions, Americas. He brings over two decades of insurance industry experience to the role, demonstrating a track record of leading global teams and delivering strong financial results.  

Rees currently serves as Chief Reserving Actuary for the Americas, having joined AXA XL in London in 2017 as Head of Reinsurance.

Move: MetLife Appoints Former Swiss Re CEO Christian Mumenthaler to Board of Directors

MetLife, Inc., a global provider of insurance, annuities, and employee benefit programs, has announced the election of Christian Mumenthaler, former Swiss Re Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), to its Board of Directors, effective May 1, 2025.  

Mumenthaler brings over 25 years of experience from Swiss Re Group, where he held various senior leadership positions, including Group Chief Risk Officer, Head of Life & Health, Chief Marketing Officer, Reinsurance, and CEO, Reinsurance. He also established and led Swiss Re’s Group Retro and Syndication unit. Mumenthaler served on the Group Executive Committee from 2011 and as Group CEO from 2016 to 2024

Move: Chubb Appoints Ana Robic to Regional President of Europe, Middle East, and Africa

Chubb has announced leadership changes in its EMEA and North America divisions. Ana Robic, Division President of Personal Risk Services (PRS), North America, has been appointed Regional President of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), effective April 1, 2025.

Robic will succeed David Furby, who will transition to the role of Executive Chairman. Robic has been with Chubb for 25 years, having served as Division President of PRS since 2021 and holding various leadership roles in Canada prior to that.

In her new position, Robic will oversee Chubb’s European operations, including those in the United Kingdom, continental Europe, Chubb Global Markets, the Middle East, and Africa.

Move: Tonya Pierson Appointed Vice President, Inforce Administration

Assurity has announced the appointment of Tonya Pierson as Vice President, Inforce Administration. Pierson brings 26 years of industry experience to the role.

Pierson will lead Assurity’s Inforce Administration Team, focusing on productivity, innovative solutions, and modern processes while ensuring high service standards and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Prior to joining Assurity, Pierson gained extensive experience in the Life Inforce area, covering customer service, project management, and operations management throughout the voluntary insurance benefit life cycle. She has a track record of leading teams and executing projects to achieve cost savings, improve quality, and increase employee engagement.

Tara Benson, Assurity’s Vice President of Operations, emphasized Pierson’s experience in insurance operations and her proven ability to lead teams through transitions and changes.
