Lloyd’s global insurer and reinsurer, MS Amlin, has announced the opening of a new branch in Sydney, expanding its Asia Pacific Reinsurance business, MS Amlin Pacific Pte. Ltd., to Australia.
This move, which is subject to Lloyd’s approval, marks a significant step in the company’s growth strategy for the region.
The reinsurer has appointed Matt Botfield as the Head of Australia and New Zealand, responsible for managing the regional client portfolio and strengthening broker relationships currently overseen by the Asia Pacific team in Singapore.
Australia and New Zealand account for a significant portion of the risks written by MS Amlin’s Asia Pacific team, and the establishment of the Sydney office reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing its local presence. The new branch aims to have a direct impact on the market while supporting the company’s growth agenda in the region.
In his new role, Botfield will focus on driving business development and leveraging MS Amlin’s extensive underwriting capabilities to create tailored solutions for clients in Australia and New Zealand. The company emphasized that the Australian operations will complement its existing portfolio and not disrupt the current business written from London.
Botfield brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous roles, including Chief Operating Officer for Greater China at Aon Reinsurance China and Chief Executive Officer of the Alternate Insurance Authority Hong Kong. He also spent 14 years at Aon Benfield, holding senior positions such as Head of Property for Australia and New Zealand.
Commenting on the expansion, MS Amlin’s leadership expressed enthusiasm about the move: “We’re excited to expand our presence in the Asia Pacific region, with the launch of a dedicated branch in Australia, where we see significant untapped potential.
