Marsh Risk has significantly expanded capacity for Nimbus, its large-scale data centre construction insurance facility, increasing available limits to $2.7 billion for major projects across Europe, North America, and Australia.

Launched in June 2025, Nimbus was positioned as the first dedicated insurance facility designed specifically for large-scale data centre construction. The expanded facility now provides comprehensive coverage, including delay in start-up and business interruption protection, supporting projects in the UK, United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

The expansion reflects accelerating demand for data centre infrastructure driven by rapid growth in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services. Nimbus is currently deployed on multiple projects in the US, UK, and the Netherlands, highlighting the increasing scale and complexity of data centre developments globally.

Mike Mathews, Global Digital Infrastructure Leader at Marsh, said that the growth of data centre capacity is reshaping economic and technological landscapes. “Demand for more powerful and efficient data centres is accelerating technological innovation, particularly around AI and machine learning, which will revolutionise the way we live and work and reshape economic landscapes over the next decade,” he said.

Mathews added that Marsh is supporting clients in navigating the risks associated with rapid infrastructure development. “By harnessing our global resources in areas such as capital management, construction, power generation, environmental risk, and operational resilience, Marsh is enabling data centre developers, operators, and owners to strengthen their delivery and resilience as we embrace the age of Industry 4.0,” he said.

Beyond providing London market capacity through A-rated insurers, Marsh’s Global Digital Infrastructure team also delivers specialist expertise in construction, cybersecurity, energy, and power, helping clients protect capital, manage assets, and scale operations in an increasingly interconnected digital economy.

The expansion of Nimbus underscores the growing role of insurance in supporting global digital infrastructure investment, as brokers and insurers adapt products and capacity to meet the evolving risk profile of data centre projects.
