Markel Corporation has teamed up with Upfort to provide its US cyber insurance clients with enhanced tools to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats.
The partnership gives eligible policyholders access to Upfort Shield, a multi-layered, AI-powered cyber defense platform. The platform includes automated protection against common cyberattacks and an easy-to-deploy endpoint detection and response solution that uses behavioral analytics to reduce the risk of breaches. Service availability and pricing may vary by client.

Paul Melone, Executive Underwriting Officer for Professional Liability at Markel, said the collaboration strengthens the insurer’s “360-degree approach to cyber protection,” ensuring support for clients “before, during, and after a cyber incident.”
Raphael Da Costa, Senior Director of U.S. Cyber and Tech at Markel, added that the partnership aligns with the company’s long-term cyber strategy, allowing it to expand its coverage offerings and provide policyholders with more robust risk-prevention tools.
Josh Riley, Co-Founder of Upfort, emphasized the platform’s proven impact: “By deploying the full Upfort Shield platform, Markel is adopting a proven cybersecurity solution with a multi-year track record of drastically reducing claim frequency,” he said, noting that the collaboration also provides Markel with actionable intelligence for data-driven underwriting.
The move reflects Markel’s commitment to integrating technology with insurance coverage to better protect middle-market businesses and support its growing cyber insurance operations in the US.
