Widely recognized as one of the insurance industry’s most influential figures, Plumeri brings decades of executive experience and visionary leadership to IAP. His appointment marks a significant milestone for the growing firm, positioning it to further elevate its competitive edge against major investment banks and advisory firms worldwide.
Plumeri, who previously served as Chairman and CEO of Willis Group Holdings, transformed the NYSE-listed broker into the third-largest in the world by revenue, delivering exceptional shareholder value during his tenure. He is also credited with inspiring IAP’s Managing Partner and Co-founder Tony Ursano to leave Bank of America to establish Willis Capital Markets & Advisory and lead corporate development and strategy at Willis.
“It is my great honour to welcome my long-standing friend, mentor, and colleague Joe Plumeri to Insurance Advisory Partners, both as chairman and an investor,” said Ursano. “He joins at an important time for IAP, which is now established, growing, and redefining the standard for M&A and capital-raising advice through our promise of providing differentiated, objective, insightful advice, while providing an amazing client experience to each and every client we touch. Joe will enable us to raise the bar even further.”
Plumeri’s track record spans leadership roles across the financial services industry. During his two-year term as CEO of Citibank, North America, he oversaw a nearly 400% increase in earnings. He also held executive roles including Chairman and CEO of Primerica, Vice Chairman of Travelers, President of Smith Barney, and President and Managing Partner of Shearson Lehman Brothers. He began his career at Carter, Berlind & Weill and has remained a prominent figure in finance and insurance ever since.
Commenting on his new role, Plumeri said: “I’m thrilled to step into the role of chairman at Insurance Advisory Partners. Tony and the rest of the team have built a fantastic business, with a clear vision to provide a level of service that is unmatched. Having closely followed their significant success, I am excited to join this exceptional group of people as we drive the next phase of the company’s growth. Insurance Advisory Partners has a great future and I’m proud I get to be part of it.”
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Plumeri is a noted motivational speaker, community leader, and philanthropist. He was named Insurance Leader of the Year by St. John’s University School of Risk Management in 2006.
Plumeri’s appointment is expected to bring fresh momentum and leadership to IAP as it continues expanding its global footprint in insurance-focused advisory services.
