The acquisition strengthens Howden’s position in Hong Kong, advancing its regional strategy and reinforcing its commitment to providing specialised expertise across Asia. Established in 1985 by Tony Lau and led by CEO Victoria Lau, Storfield offers comprehensive insurance solutions, including coverage for bloodstock, fine art, luxury vehicles, yachts, and other bespoke policies tailored to SMEs.
Following the acquisition, Howden Hong Kong’s headcount reaches approximately 200, joining a network of 17 offices and 1,100 employees across Asia. The growth aligns with Howden’s strategy of combining global resources with local expertise to better serve clients.
Alfred Sham, CEO of Howden Hong Kong, commented, “The acquisition of Storfield is a significant milestone for Howden in Hong Kong. Together, we can strengthen our value proposition for clients and insurer partners alike and achieve new milestones in the industry.”
Storfield founder Tony Lau echoed this sentiment, stating, “After nearly 40 years, joining Howden was a natural step forward. The blend of our local knowledge with Howden’s global capabilities will allow us to better support our clients’ evolving needs.”
The acquisition comes amid Howden’s broader regional expansion, following its recent entry into Japan’s reinsurance and retail markets. Howden launched Howden Re Japan through a partnership with Keystone ILS and acquired Foresight, further deepening its presence in Asia.
With operations in 55 countries across multiple continents, Howden manages $42 billion in premiums for its clients globally, employing a workforce of 19,000 professionals. The acquisition of Storfield exemplifies Howden’s commitment to strengthening its Asian footprint and delivering value to clients through local expertise backed by global reach.
