GreenieRE and UCS Launch Renewable Energy Surety Program to Accelerate Clean Infrastructure Development
GreenieRE, a reinsurance firm specializing in risk solutions for the energy sector, has joined forces with United Casualty and Surety Insurance Company to roll out a new Renewable Energy Surety Program.

The initiative introduces a suite of financial products designed to backstop renewable energy projects against development and completion risks.

The first bonds issued under the program support a community solar project in the Midwest. These include interconnection bonds, covering the risk that a developer fails to complete required grid upgrades, and decommissioning bonds, ensuring funds are available to safely remove solar equipment at the end of its lifecycle. Additional products in the program will span performance and power purchase agreement (PPA/VPPA) bonds, construction bonds, and site lease and permit bonds—each targeting common bottlenecks in scaling clean energy infrastructure.

“Our surety program directly supports the buildout of renewable energy assets, enabling capital-efficient credit support for developers and utilities,” said Jeff McAulay, CEO of GreenieRE. “This partnership reflects our commitment to helping more domestic clean energy infrastructure get built quickly and responsibly.”

UCS will participate in risk sharing, provide underwriting and pricing review, and handle claims associated with the products.

“This program represents a terrific opportunity to drive development in the renewable energy sector, and we are excited to partner with GreenieRE to provide the capacity new market entrants need to bring their ideas to fruition,” said Robert Thomas, President of UCS.

By targeting challenges that often stall renewable projects—particularly those serving low-income and disadvantaged communities—the program aims to broaden access to affordable clean energy while attracting more private sector investment.
