Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has named Ana Matarranz as Chief Executive Officer for Spain, reinforcing its strategy to strengthen its footprint in key European insurance markets.

In her new role, Matarranz will lead Gallagher’s growth in Spain, focusing on a combination of organic expansion and the integration of specialist teams and capabilities to enhance the firm’s client offering.
She brings more than 20 years of experience across insurance, financial services, and consulting, having held senior leadership roles at major firms including WTW, Howden, MAPFRE, and Caser-Helvetia.
Gallagher’s European leadership emphasized her deep market expertise and strong industry relationships as key reasons for the appointment.
“Ana is a highly regarded business leader with an exceptional understanding of the Spanish insurance market and a strong reputation across the industry,” said Alex Nagler, CEO for Europe at Gallagher. “Her experience, expertise and market connections make her ideally placed to lead our business in Spain as we continue to invest in the market, attract high-calibre talent, and accelerate our growth across Europe.”
Matarranz said she is joining at a “pivotal time” for the Spanish broking market, highlighting opportunities for both clients and talent as the sector evolves. She added that Gallagher’s client-first culture and global capabilities provide a strong foundation to build a “high-performing business” in Spain.
The appointment underscores Gallagher’s broader European strategy, which continues to focus on expanding local leadership teams while leveraging global scale to compete more effectively in increasingly consolidated brokerage markets.
