MSIG USA has appointed industry veteran Carrie Brodzinski as chief underwriting officer, bringing nearly three decades of specialty underwriting and leadership experience to the US arm of MS&AD Insurance Group.
Brodzinski will lead MSIG USA’s enterprise underwriting strategy, working across the company’s specialty businesses to oversee underwriting performance, portfolio management and execution.
Her remit will also include the continued development of MSIG USA’s data and technology capabilities, with a focus on ensuring underwriting insights are used consistently across the organisation as the specialty business expands.
A career focused on specialty underwriting
Brodzinski joins MSIG USA from The Hartford, where she served as chief underwriting officer for Global Specialty since 2021.
Her career has included senior underwriting roles at AXA XL, where she was Head of Global Underwriting Management and Senior Vice President of Underwriting.
Earlier, she held roles at AIG, including Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of Underwriting Excellence for Financial Lines in the US and Canada. Her responsibilities there included underwriting strategy, quality and controls, operational efficiency, product development and technology.
She has also held product leadership positions at Beazley, Travelers, Chubb and Executive Risk, giving her experience across both admitted and excess and surplus lines.
Data and discipline at the centre of the role
The appointment comes as MSIG USA continues to build its specialty platform while focusing on portfolio discipline and underwriting consistency.
CEO Peter McKenna said Brodzinski’s experience combines technical underwriting expertise with the ability to use data, technology and portfolio management to improve decision-making.
That combination will be particularly relevant to her enterprise-wide role, where the objective is not simply to set underwriting strategy but to ensure it is applied consistently across MSIG USA’s specialty businesses.
For MSIG USA, the appointment puts an experienced specialty underwriter in charge of the broader underwriting framework at a time when carriers are increasingly using data and technology to strengthen portfolio oversight while maintaining risk discipline.
