Allianz Commercial has announced plans to establish Allianz Commercial 1893, a new direct underwriting syndicate at Lloyd's. Trading is expected to begin on 1 January 2027, subject to final regulatory approval.
The proposed syndicate, also referred to as Allianz Commercial Syndicate 1893, is intended to provide greater access to Specialty, facilities and selected MGA business at Lloyd's. Polo Managing Agency will act as managing agent. Lloyd's has already given in-principle approval. The name references Allianz opening a London office in 1893 after its founding in Berlin in 1890.
"The new syndicate will establish a long-term direct underwriting presence for Allianz Commercial in one of the world’s leading Specialty markets. It will expand our access to specialist business and strengthen our ability to serve clients and brokers facing increasingly complex and international risks," said Thomas Lillelund, CEO of Allianz Commercial.
"We are delighted to welcome this new Allianz syndicate to the Lloyd’s market. The decision to launch at Lloyd’s not only reflects our history of bringing together the world’s leading risk takers but is also a vote of confidence in the market’s unique advantages in servicing multinational, specialty, and complex risks at scale," said Dawn Miller, Lloyd’s Chief Commercial Officer and CEO of Lloyd’s Americas.
Allianz Commercial combines Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty's large corporate insurance business with the commercial insurance businesses of national Allianz Property & Casualty entities. According to the release, it operates in more than 200 countries and territories and generated around €17.3bn in gross premium globally in 2025.
The release discloses no syndicate capacity, stamp capacity or planned premium figure. Lloyd's Gross Written Premium is stated as £57.9bn, described as roughly half of the total London market. Today's announcement covers the establishment plan, not the start of underwriting.
