Eurobank S.A. has completed the acquisition of 80% of Eurolife FFH Life Insurance S.A. (Eurolife Life) from entities controlled by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, taking its holding in the Greek life insurer to 100%. Fairfax said the cash consideration for its 80% stake was approximately €813m.
Eurobank's announcement, published on Euronext Athens, did not state the amount.
According to Eurobank, completion followed receipt of the required regulatory approvals and satisfaction of the relevant closing conditions. Both companies announced completion on 29 October 2026. Eurobank first announced the deal on 13 October 2025, with a further announcement on 7 May 2026.
Fairfax described the transaction as the sale of its 80% equity interest in the life insurance business operated by Eurolife FFH Insurance Group Holdings S.A. to Eurobank S.A.
Eurobank called the acquisition an important milestone in its strategy to strengthen its presence in the insurance sector, diversify its revenue streams, and further develop its bancassurance activities. The bank said the deal draws on Eurolife Life's market position and distribution network.
A related transaction between the two groups remains pending. Eurobank announced in May 2026 the sale of a 45% stake in ERB Asfalistiki Limited, its non-life insurance subsidiary in Cyprus, to Fairfax affiliates. That sale is expected to complete by the end of 2026, subject to the remaining approvals and closing conditions.
Eurobank describes Eurolife Life as one of the leading life insurance companies in Greece.
Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under FFH and FFH.U, is a holding company primarily engaged, through its subsidiaries, in property and casualty insurance and reinsurance and the associated investment management.
