Aon has announced the launch of Totalis Specialty Group, a unified specialty insurance group that brings together NFP Totalis Program Underwriters and Aon Affinity’s US programs business under a single go-to-market strategy and identity.
Representing more than $5.5bn in premium volume in the US, with addressable market available globally, Totalis Specialty Group combines specialty underwriting, program administration, distribution, technology, and data capabilities to support brokers, carriers, and clients. The group is composed of a portfolio of specialised underwriting and program businesses, and will remain separate from Aon and NFP’s broking businesses.
By combining the complementary strengths of NFP Totalis and Aon Affinity’s US program business, the group aims to create a more connected specialty insurance organisation designed to support stakeholders through continued growth, innovation, and investment across these segments.
Totalis Specialty Group is expected to begin operations on 1 January 2027. Current businesses will continue operating with minimal disruption under their existing leadership teams throughout 2026, while increasingly benefiting from the resources of a combined platform. The business will be led by two experienced Aon and NFP leaders, with Kip Kelley serving as executive chairman and Tom Gillingham as chief executive officer.
The group will launch with 46 specialty programs, supported by relationships with more than 25,000 active brokers, 100 active carrier and reinsurance relationships, and 350 sponsor relationships. Aon said this foundation positions the combined business for continued investment in specialty underwriting capabilities, new program development, expanded distribution, and strategic growth.
Joe Peiser, chief executive officer of Risk Capital for Aon, said the launch reflected the firm’s wider strategy.
“The launch of Totalis Specialty Group reflects our commitment to creating more connected and scalable solutions across our Risk Capital business. By bringing together complementary underwriting and program capabilities under a unified strategy and brand, we are strengthening our ability to invest in talent, technology, data and innovation while helping stakeholders navigate an increasingly dynamic specialty insurance marketplace,” said Peiser.
