Insurance broker WTW has unveiled its plan to realign its climate and Risk & Analytics capabilities under the unified leadership of Peter Carter.

Recognising the mounting significance of climate risk for businesses worldwide, WTW aims to capitalise on its core strengths in risk management and analytics, merging them seamlessly with extensive climate expertise. The objective is to empower clients in quantifying, mitigating, and transferring risks associated with climate change.

This recalibration of WTW’s climate practice is a deliberate response to the heightened demand from clients, aligning the company’s strategic focus with its inherent strengths. According to John Merkovsky, WTW’s Head of Risk and Analytics, this initiative is a pivotal step in fulfilling the commitment to a “smarter way to risk” by continuously investing in cutting-edge data, technology, and talent.

Peter Carter (pictured), the newly appointed leader of the climate practice, said the increasing need for clients to receive enhanced support in comprehending the implications of climate risk on their organisations.

He said: “WTW has significant climate expertise, which combined with the company’s core risk and analytics capabilities and risk management strengths, makes us ideally qualified to help clients navigate this growing challenge.”

WTW, a trailblazer among global brokers in climate analytics investment, is bidding farewell to Rowan Douglas, the visionary leader responsible for laying the foundation of much of the company’s initiatives in the climate domain.

During his tenure, Douglas spearheaded the growth of WTW’s Climate and Resilience Hub (CRH), nurturing a team of over 130 climate risk professionals. Under his guidance, the CRH played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Insurance Development Forum (IDF).

Presently, he chairs its Operating Committee, showcasing his continued commitment to advancing climate-related initiatives. Additionally, Douglas played a key role in incubating the award-winning Coalition for Climate Resilient Investment, further solidifying WTW’s impact in the climate resilience space.
