In a significant move to improve its telematics-driven offerings, Root has partnered with Arity, a data analytics firm specialising in driver behaviour technology.
The partnership will enable Root to leverage Arity’s Drivesight technology, which assigns drivers a score between 1 and 999 based on their driving habits. This score will be integrated into Root’s proprietary system to provide instant quotes for customers who already have an Arity score, streamlining the process for prospective policyholders.
While Root will be using some third-party data from Arity, it remains committed to collecting the majority of the driving data directly through its own app. Customers will have the option to allow Root to access their existing driving data with explicit consent. Those who prefer not to share third-party data can opt to take a traditional test drive or forgo the test altogether and purchase coverage immediately.
Root’s UBI model is primarily distributed through its key partner, Carvana, where insurance is offered directly at the point of vehicle purchase. Root joins other major insurers, including American Family and CSAA, in utilising Arity’s telematics technology to offer personalised rates based on driving behaviour.
