Kelly Grummert, director of business development & innovative solutions for Nationwide Agribusiness, says telematics help agricultural customers become more efficient by reducing speeding and offering real-time alerts.

“Owners and drivers can see scores so they’re more aware of driving habits,” Grummert says, adding that the technology also decreases downtime and maintenance, which leads to more fuel savings and less business interruption.

Customers can purchase telematics devices and dash cameras through Razor Tracking, where they’ll receive preferred pricing on devices and subscription costs. Quotes are available directly through Razor Tracking.

Telematics adoption among agricultural businesses is typically higher for larger operations but there is overall interest in the sector.

“Adoption varies depending on operations, we serve multiple customers and different sizes,” Grummert says. “All of them have varying degrees of [people who drive] on their behalf and the number of vehicles in their fleets. Depending on that, some may be more apt to adopt telematics more quickly as they experience challenges with drivers and routing. … That’s not to say smaller operations don’t have it or aren’t interested. Multiple customers have expressed interest, which is why we are implementing the solution.”

The telematics devices are installed in vehicles and customers can then interact with those devices via a portal or mobile app. Behaviors that are monitored include high-speed driving, harsh braking and sharp cornering. The safety score is generated based on those factors.

Devices also send alerts for engine failure or overturned vehicles.

“Partnering with Nationwide solidifies the depth of Razor Tracking’s technology and ability to provide an ideal mixed-fleet solution for your agribusiness operation,” said Eric Mauch, managing partner of Razor Tracking, in a statement. “Delivering a comprehensive platform with the latest telematics devices has been the cornerstone of our business, and we look forward to developing the same relationship with Nationwide’s customers.”
