New Reinsurance Company Ltd. (NewRe), the Swiss reinsurer within the Munich Re Group, has appointed Dr. Sascha Brehm to its Board of Directors, effective 16 January 2026, further strengthening the company’s governance and risk leadership capabilities.
Brehm brings more than 15 years of experience in the global reinsurance sector, with deep expertise spanning risk management, finance and accounting. He has spent nearly 17 years with Munich Re, holding a number of senior leadership roles across the group, most recently serving as Group Chief Risk Officer.
In addition to his risk leadership background, Brehm has played a key role in driving transformation initiatives at Munich Re, including as Senior Executive Manager responsible for global accounting processes, digitisation and automation. His experience positions him well to support NewRe’s strategic priorities in an increasingly complex and data-driven reinsurance environment.
Claudia Strametz, President of the Board of NewRe, said the appointment reinforces the company’s strong leadership framework, noting Brehm’s ability to combine technical depth with a broad understanding of international reinsurance markets.
Thomas Braune, Chief Executive Officer of NewRe, added that Brehm’s business acumen and financial leadership will be a valuable addition to the Board, supporting NewRe’s long-term objectives and continued development as part of the Munich Re Group.
The appointment reflects NewRe’s ongoing focus on robust governance and experienced leadership as it navigates evolving risk dynamics across global reinsurance markets.
