The product builds on the success of Monzo’s contents insurance for renters, introduced earlier this year, and marks the next step in the bank’s expansion into the insurance space.
Monzo Home Insurance allows customers to get personalised cover in minutes directly through the Monzo app. By answering as few as six essential questions, users can go from quote to cover quickly, with Monzo pre-filling the rest of the details. The policy offers full flexibility, enabling customers to amend or cancel their coverage at any time with no additional fees – a major shift from the traditional, rigid annual contracts that dominate the home insurance market.
The product is designed to offer control and transparency. Customers can personalise their policy with optional add-ons and immediately see how their choices affect pricing. Claims can currently be made over the phone, and Monzo will soon introduce the ability to initiate and track claims within the app, providing clear guidance at every step of the process.
Monzo Home Insurance offers coverage of up to £1 million for damage to homes caused by events such as floods, fires, subsidence, and natural disasters. It also includes protection for theft or damage to personal belongings both inside and outside the home, as well as replacement of locks and keys. Optional extras such as cover for high-value items, accidental damage, and home emergency services are also available. The product will be rolled out to all eligible Monzo customers over the coming weeks.
Phoebe Hugh, Head of Insurance at Monzo, said: “Your home is your biggest asset and protecting it shouldn’t be a headache. Our customers told us that they wanted something simpler – cover that actually fits their lives and changes when they do. So we’ve introduced a fully flexible Home Insurance which makes it simple for homeowners to get the cover they need, change it at any time and manage their claims – all within the Monzo app. In line with our mission to make money work for everyone, we’re already deep into developing our next protection products, to bring the Monzo simplicity to every aspect of insurance.”
With this launch, Monzo continues its evolution into a comprehensive financial platform. The bank now enables its more than 12 million customers to budget, save, borrow, invest, track their mortgage, consolidate pensions, and insure their home and belongings – all from a single app.
