MAPFRE RE Signs Global Licensing Agreement for ICEYE’s Flood Data
MAPFRE RE, one of the world’s leading reinsurers, has signed a global licensing agreement with ICEYE, a specialist in satellite-based disaster management solutions, to access its Flood Insights data.

The partnership is set to enhance MAPFRE RE’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to natural catastrophes by integrating near real-time flood data into its event response processes.

The agreement will allow MAPFRE RE to incorporate ICEYE’s high-resolution satellite data into its catastrophe event response framework, giving the reinsurer rapid access to damage assessments shortly after a flood event occurs. This immediate situational awareness will support faster loss estimation and enable improved communication with stakeholders across its global reinsurance portfolios.

ICEYE’s proprietary synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite constellation delivers precise flood extent and building-level inundation data, often within hours of an event. This capability is especially impactful in regions such as Latin America, where timely access to Earth observation data has historically been limited. By licensing ICEYE’s data globally, MAPFRE RE can now expand its use of detailed flood analytics across all geographies in which it operates.

In addition to flood insights, MAPFRE RE is currently evaluating the use of ICEYE’s recently launched Hurricane Solution. Introduced in March 2025 ahead of the U.S. hurricane season, the solution provides an integrated view of both wind and flood-related damage within 24 hours of a storm’s landfall. It enables reinsurers to rapidly identify impact zones along a hurricane’s path and estimate losses across affected areas with improved accuracy.

Miriam García, Manager of the Natural Perils Area at MAPFRE RE, said the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to leveraging high-quality data for faster and more informed disaster response. “At MAPFRE RE, we are committed to ensuring that our response to extreme weather events is grounded in rapid access to high-quality data,” García said. “Our agreement with ICEYE will provide us with a new level of hazard insight, heightening our situational awareness and enabling us to identify impact areas within hours and gain a clear understanding of the potential impact across our portfolios.”

Rupert Bidwell, Vice President of Insurance Solutions at ICEYE, described the agreement as a significant step forward in collaborative disaster response innovation. “Today’s announcement marks an exciting step forward in our data collaboration with MAPFRE RE,” Bidwell said. “By integrating the full capabilities of our flood solution into their existing response infrastructure and demonstrating the potential of our hurricane product, we’re equipping their teams with the most current, high-resolution damage data available. This will empower MAPFRE RE to establish much greater control over the financial impact of catastrophe events much earlier in the response process.”

The collaboration highlights the growing role of advanced Earth observation technologies in strengthening insurers’ and reinsurers’ resilience strategies amid rising climate risks.
