Christian Formby was appointed President of Assurant Europe, in August 2019. He is responsible for developing successful business strategies for Europe, to achieve sustainable business growth, in a customer centric environment while focusing on the company’s Lifestyle & Housing business segments.  

Anticipating the evolving needs of consumers, Assurant partners with the world’s leading brands to develop innovative products and services that connect & protect what matters most for 300 million people around the world.  Assurant offers mobile device solutions, extended service contracts, vehicle protection services, pre-funded funeral insurance , renters insurance, and lender-placed homeowners insurance.

Christian joined Assurant in 2011 as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. He assumed additional responsibility for leading sales & marketing in September, 2012. He was then appointed as President & CEO of Assurant Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. From 2017 – 2019, Christian lead the International Property business for Assurant for non-US markets.

Christian lived in Boston where he pursued his BSBA in Finance at Boston University, subsequently pursuing an MBA in Risk Management Insurance in New York City. After completing his MBA, he joined Ernst & Young and later, Goldman Sachs in New York. He also held a Senior Vice President position in Institutional Risk Management with MARSH from 2006 – 2011.

Christian is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe).
