The move aims to fortify the MGA/Programme broking business, currently overseeing a combined $6 billion of Gross Written Premium (GWP), with the goal of substantial growth across Europe.
With over 20 years dedicated to Lloyd’s in Europe, Bertagna has an extensive background. His leadership roles include business development at Allied World and heading the MGA network and MGA Solutions at Zurich.
Elliot Richardson, Vice-Chair, Howden Tiger, said: “We see huge opportunity in Europe for growth in the MGA and fronting space, and expect to see premiums in European MGAs rise rapidly from the current position of approximately $10bn of premium.
“It is therefore critical that Howden has the talent and local expertise in place to provide European MGAs, coverholders and continental capacity providers with further opportunities to grow profitably. I am confident that we will be the go-to advisor in the European MGA market and Enrico is the perfect person to lead our MGA/Programme offering in the region.”
Stephen Greener, Chief Executive Officer, Bowood, added, “We are delighted to welcome Enrico to the Group. Enrico has developed relationships and business in Europe for over 30 years and brings an unrivalled wealth of expertise and experience.
“We have asked Enrico to lead our MGA broking business in Europe and we look forward to supporting the next chapter of Enrico’s career dedicated to the development of MGAs and carrier relationships in the region. I am sure Enrico will make a great success of this and I look forward to working with him over the coming years to maximise the opportunity.”
Bertagna, added, “There hasn’t been a better time and opportunity to build a leading position as a trusted advisor for continental capacity providers and MGAs. I am delighted to have found the ideal home for my vision, and look forward to leveraging the unique talent and expertise that we can deploy.”
