Datavant to Acquire DigitalOwl, Powering Faster, Smarter Medical Data Reviews
Datavant, the healthcare data collaboration platform, announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire DigitalOwl, a company specializing in AI-driven medical data analysis. The acquisition will strengthen Datavant’s ability to make health data more accessible and actionable for the legal and insurance industries.

Medical record reviews today are often slow, error-prone and costly, creating delays in case resolutions for legal clients and claim approvals for insurance members. By combining DigitalOwl’s proprietary technology with Ontellus’ health records retrieval and claims intelligence capabilities, Datavant plans to deliver a secure, end-to-end data collaboration platform. The solution will feature managed retrieval, automated summaries, chronology and de-duplication, as well as AI-enabled predictive analytics. Datavant will also apply its expertise in secure, compliant medical data exchange to curate and deliver information to authorized users.

Kyle Armbrester, CEO of Datavant, said the acquisition addresses a growing need in the market. “Legal and insurance customers are looking to consolidate and simplify the process of finding, accessing and analyzing specific medical information from a vast amount of both structured and unstructured data sources. DigitalOwl’s data extraction and summarization technology was built specifically for these use cases and, together with Ontellus’ and Datavant’s digital record exchange platform and extensive provider network reach, we will transform a market that is ripe for change.”

DigitalOwl’s proprietary AI technology classifies and annotates unstructured medical data, simplifying reviews and delivering actionable insights. Its platform is continuously refined by an in-house team of data scientists and professionals with experience in insurance and legal processes, ensuring that outputs are contextualized and relevant. Earlier this year, the company was recognized as the 2025 Natural Language Generation Platform of the Year for medical record reviews.

Yuval Man, CEO of DigitalOwl, said the acquisition will help accelerate the company’s mission. “Manually reviewing medical records and extracting the necessary information for underwriting, cases and claims work is time-consuming and costly. At DigitalOwl, we’ve focused exclusively on applying advanced technology to automate manual processes and address pain points across the workflow. Joining forces with Datavant will enable us to accelerate our mission and deliver even greater value for our partners and customers.”

Datavant works with payers, providers, life sciences, legal and insurance clients globally to enable secure, compliant and actionable health data collaboration. The company facilitates the exchange of more than 60 million healthcare records between thousands of organizations, including over 80,000 hospitals and clinics, 75 percent of the largest U.S. health systems and more than 350 real-world data partners.

DigitalOwl is an InsurTech platform designed to help insurance and legal professionals transform complex medical data into actionable insights, supporting faster risk assessment and more informed decision-making.
