AXA UK & Ireland has restructured its UK operations, bringing together its commercial and retail divisions into a single general insurance business as it looks to enhance scale, underwriting visibility, and operational efficiency.
The newly formed AXA Insurance UK will operate under one leadership structure, led by Jon Walker, who assumes the role of CEO. Walker had previously been overseeing the retail division on an interim basis alongside his position as CEO of AXA Commercial.
The move is designed to create a more unified view of underwriting performance and portfolio management, reflecting a broader industry push toward greater data transparency and consistency across business lines.
Despite the structural consolidation, AXA will retain dedicated leadership for each segment. Mike Crane has been appointed Managing Director for Commercial, while Julie Barbey will take on the role of Managing Director for Retail, joining in May.
At a group level, Tara Foley said the new structure is intended to simplify operations while strengthening the organisation’s ability to compete and grow. The integration is expected to improve alignment across platforms, processes, and underwriting practices, while supporting a more consistent customer experience.
The restructuring also reflects AXA’s focus on scaling capabilities across both personal and commercial lines, including accelerating the adoption of technology and artificial intelligence to enhance underwriting and operational performance.
As insurers face increasingly complex portfolios and market conditions, the creation of AXA Insurance UK highlights a strategic shift toward greater integration, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making across core insurance operations.
