Aviva plc has appointed Chris Cochrane as Group Chief Information Officer, effective from summer 2026, subject to regulatory approval by the PRA and FCA.

Cochrane currently serves as Group Chief Information Technology Officer at M&G plc and will succeed John Cummings, who is set to retire.
Cochrane brings extensive experience in senior technology leadership roles. Prior to his position at M&G, he served as Chief Information Officer at BT Global Services and CIO of Openreach Service Delivery, where he led large-scale technology and operational transformation initiatives.
Amanda Blanc, Group Chief Executive Officer of Aviva, described the hire as a significant appointment for the insurer. She said Cochrane’s expertise would support Aviva’s continued growth and delivery for customers and investors, while also thanking outgoing CIO John Cummings for his service and wishing him a well-deserved retirement.
Cochrane said he admired Aviva’s performance and momentum across its insurance, wealth, and retirement businesses and looked forward to contributing to the company’s next phase of growth.
The appointment remains subject to approval by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
