Sompo International has appointed Nicolas (Nic) Berg as chief executive officer of its UK Insurance business, succeeding Sarah Stanford, who is stepping down after leading the business through the initial integration period following Sompo’s acquisition of Aspen.

Berg’s appointment is effective 1 October 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

He joins Sompo from SCOR Group, where he most recently served as chief executive officer of SCOR US and head of P&C North America. An experienced executive, Berg spent the majority of his 25-year career at AIG, holding a succession of global and regional executive roles focused on the UK and European markets.

In his new role, Berg will be based in London and report to Alessa Quane, chief executive officer of International Markets.

“As an established insurance executive with deep industry knowledge and significant UK and global market experience, Nic brings a dynamic and forward-looking approach to leadership,” said Quane. “He will play a critical role in advancing our strategy, accelerating our momentum and positioning Sompo as a leading commercial insurer in the UK market. I thank Sarah for her contributions and commitment and wish her all the best for the future.”
