Allstate is developing a proprietary agentic AI platform called Allie as the insurer looks to embed AI more deeply across its operations and customer interactions.
CEO Tom Wilson outlined the initiative during Allstate’s second-quarter earnings call, saying the platform is intended to support the company’s broader technology-driven strategy. Allstate has not provided a timeline for Allie’s launch.
The platform will consist of eight integrated components designed to support agent-to-agent processing. One component, for example, will manage customer interactions, with each component incorporating multiple reusable AI agents that can be deployed across the organisation.
“Allie” builds on years of work by Allstate to develop its analytics and technology infrastructure. The insurer currently operates around 250 analytical models capable of generating approximately 100 million quotes and managing hundreds of millions of customer interactions.
“We have a technology-driven strategy, not a strategy supported by technology,” Wilson said during the earnings call, adding that the approach involves evaluating technology first to determine how it can improve customer value and generate returns.
Allstate has been developing its AI capabilities for years. In 2018, it introduced Amelia, an AI chatbot designed to support customer service representatives. The insurer later expanded its use of AI to digitise records and analyse text through natural language processing.
Earlier this year, Allstate said AI was being used to support policy sales, with an AI-enabled system already selling policies for a particular product in three states as part of a learning programme.
The insurer is also upgrading its technology infrastructure through its Connected Customer Cloud, or C3, which is intended to bring systems onto a common platform. Wilson said the company’s orchestration layer allows Allstate to connect existing technology rather than replace legacy systems entirely.
Allstate’s investment in agentic AI comes as insurers increasingly move beyond AI assistants and automation toward systems capable of carrying out multi-step tasks and interacting with other software.
The company was ranked among the top 10 insurance firms for AI adoption by Evident Insights for the second consecutive year, while also ranking among the top five for AI innovation.
