Zurich Insurance Group has expanded its specialist life sciences insurance offering into Europe, launching a dedicated solution across nine markets to support companies operating in one of the world’s fastest-evolving industries.
Available from July 2026, the offering extends Zurich’s established life sciences capabilities beyond the United States into Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The launch forms part of the insurer’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the European middle-market segment while addressing the increasingly complex risks facing pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical technology companies.
Addressing a Changing Risk Landscape
Zurich said life sciences businesses are expanding internationally earlier in their development cycles to support clinical trials, manufacturing and commercialisation, exposing them to multiple regulatory environments, increasingly complex supply chains and evolving operational risks.
The new insurance solution is designed to provide coordinated protection throughout the life sciences value chain, helping companies manage risks as they move from research and development to global commercial operations.
Comprehensive Coverage
The offering combines specialist underwriting, risk engineering and claims expertise to protect against a broad range of exposures, including:
- Product liability
- Property damage
- Business interruption
- Marine risks
- Accident and health
Coverage is delivered through locally admitted policies supported by globally coordinated insurance programmes, enabling multinational life sciences businesses to maintain consistent protection across jurisdictions.
Risk Engineering Support
Alongside insurance coverage, clients will have access to Zurich Resilience Solutions, the insurer’s risk engineering and consultancy business.
The service provides operational resilience advice and risk management support, helping life sciences companies identify vulnerabilities, strengthen business continuity and manage emerging risks throughout their operations.
Supporting European Growth
Luciano Ciriná, CEO Commercial Insurance International at Zurich, said the new offering reflects the changing needs of companies operating in the life sciences sector.
“Life sciences companies operate in an environment of rapid innovation, regulatory complexity and evolving risks as they scale. As these businesses move from discovery to global commercialization, they require insurance protection that reflects that evolution and delivers consistent cover across markets.”
The European expansion strengthens Zurich’s specialist commercial insurance portfolio and reflects growing demand for tailored insurance solutions as life sciences companies continue to internationalise and navigate increasingly complex regulatory and operational environments.
