Gallagher Re has appointed Minesh Jani as Chief Executive Officer of India, reinforcing the global reinsurance broker’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the rapidly evolving Indian insurance and reinsurance market.

Jani brings more than two decades of experience across reinsurance broking, risk placement and market development, having held senior leadership positions with several international broking firms and insurers throughout India, the Middle East and Africa.

In announcing the appointment, Gallagher Re highlighted Jani’s extensive market expertise and strong industry relationships across the region.

“Minesh has built strong, collaborative relationships across clients, markets and regulators in the region, enabling consistent growth and long-term partnerships. His forward-looking approach and deep knowledge of the Indian market will be key as we continue to expand our presence in the region,” a Gallagher Re spokesperson said.

Jani joins Gallagher Re from Howden Insurance Brokers Limited’s DIFC branch, where he most recently served as Managing Director. During his time with the business, he played a key role in developing reinsurance operations across the Middle East, India and the wider Indian subcontinent.

Prior to Howden, Jani served as CEO of Ed MENA and the Indian Subcontinent, leading the business before its acquisition by The Ardonagh Group. Following the transaction, Price Forbes integrated the firm’s specialty and wholesale reinsurance operations into its global platform.

His career also includes serving as President of Reinsurance at ARPL, where he was responsible for portfolio structuring and the placement of risks across India and neighbouring markets. In that role, he worked closely with insurers and reinsurers to develop risk transfer strategies and access international reinsurance capacity.

Earlier in his career, Jani held positions at WTW in Mumbai, BMS India and ICICI Lombard, one of India’s largest private-sector general insurers. He also spent nearly six years with the J.B. Boda Group, where he focused on reinsurance business across African markets.

The appointment comes as India continues to attract growing attention from global insurers, reinsurers and brokers due to rising insurance penetration, regulatory reforms and increasing demand for risk transfer solutions across both traditional and emerging sectors.

Gallagher Re has been investing in its international growth strategy as clients seek greater support navigating complex risk environments, including climate-related exposures, cyber threats, infrastructure development and expanding specialty insurance markets.

With Jani at the helm of its Indian operations, Gallagher Re is expected to further strengthen its relationships with insurers, reinsurers, regulators and corporate clients while supporting the development of innovative reinsurance solutions tailored to the needs of the Indian market.

The appointment also reflects the increasing importance of local leadership and market expertise as global reinsurance brokers compete for growth opportunities across Asia-Pacific, where India remains one of the most significant long-term growth markets for the insurance industry.
