Corporate and specialty insurer HDI Global has expanded its Asia–Pacific footprint with the opening of a representative office in Seoul, Republic of Korea, strengthening its presence in one of the region’s major insurance markets.
The new office enhances HDI Global’s ability to build and deepen relationships with local brokers, cedents, and clients, while supporting the insurer’s continued regional growth. Operating with a dedicated local expert team, the Seoul office will work closely with HDI Global’s Hong Kong branch, combining local market access with regional and global capabilities.
The opening forms part of HDI Global’s strategic pursuit of profitable growth and focuses on segments where the insurer holds a competitive edge, including infrastructure, renewable energy, and ESG liability. The agile set-up allows teams on the ground in Korea to manage broker, client, and cedent relationships directly, while core underwriting and claims processes continue to be handled from Hong Kong.
As part of the expansion, Ki Hyung Jo, a seasoned local insurance professional with 25 years of market experience, has joined HDI Global as Market Lead for Korea. He brings deep expertise in underwriting and product development, along with strong relationships across the local insurance ecosystem.
David Hullin, member of the HDI Global Executive Board, said:
“Korea is a logical next step in our growth agenda. We want to act as clients’ and brokers’ preferred Partner in Transformation thinking globally and acting locally.
“By establishing local proximity and an access point to HDI Global’s worldwide capabilities, we deepen relationships with our partners and accelerate the delivery of bespoke solutions for the specific needs of Korea’s economy at home and internationally. I am very pleased that, with Ki Hyung Jo, we have secured a capable and highly regarded industry expert driving our ambitious growth plans in the region.”
Korea represents a major property and casualty insurance market in Asia, valued at approximately EUR 80 billion. Through the new Seoul office, Korean market participants gain access to HDI Global’s broad product range and specialised expertise, with a gradual introduction of select specialty solutions, including event-cancellation insurance for major K-pop events and surety bonds for Korean contractors operating internationally.
