Orpello brings more than two decades of marketing and leadership experience, having previously held senior roles at TD Bank, Capital One, and ING Direct.
Her appointment follows the departure of former CMO Damon Burrell, who stepped down in January after nearly three years with the company.
After Burrell’s exit, Geico initiated a creative agency review to expand its agency roster. However, the process has been on hold since March as the company focused on finding a new marketing leader.
Geico has a long-standing partnership with The Martin Agency, which has handled its advertising since 1994. The Richmond-based agency is behind some of Geico’s most memorable campaigns, including the creation of the Geico Gecko in 1999 and the famous slogan “15 minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance.”
Orpello will report directly to Geico’s chairman, president, and chief executive officer, Todd Combs.
Combs said that Orpello’s deep experience in the financial services industry will play a key role in driving the company’s continued growth. “Her extensive leadership experience in the financial services sector will be instrumental to our continued success, and her proven expertise will help elevate our world-class marketing capabilities to a new level,” he said.
In August, Geico reported a $1.8 billion underwriting profit for the second quarter of 2025, representing a slight increase compared to the previous year.
