The service automatically reimburses customers when sustained winds interfere with planned activities, such as ski lifts being closed or golf courses becoming unplayable. The product requires no claims or paperwork, with payouts issued in real time.
The High Wind Guarantee joins Sensible’s existing suite of protections covering rain, heat, snow and sleet. Customers can purchase the new option alongside other weather guarantees, giving them added security when booking trips and outdoor experiences.
Sensible calculates risk using trusted windspeed data, measuring the strongest average wind over a one-hour period. If winds meet or exceed a set threshold during covered dates, the system triggers automatic reimbursement.
The launch comes as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts above-average sustained winds across large parts of the U.S. this year, highlighting growing risks to recreation and travel.
Nick Cavanaugh, Ph.D., CEO of Sensible Weather, said the new product removes another pain point for travelers and operators “With wind now added to our suite of products, we’re eliminating another major stressor for travelers and businesses. By delivering scalable, adaptable solutions, we’re not just responding to change, we’re shaping a more resilient and sustainable future for travel and recreation in a rapidly evolving climate.”
The product is already being piloted by golf resorts and ski destinations, where wind-related closures are a recurring challenge. Sensible said the guarantee helps operators protect bookings, increase customer confidence, and drive revenue.
Founded in 2019, Sensible Weather has sold more than one million weather guarantees across 8,000 partners. The company expanded its coverage in 2024 to include protection against extreme heat, following record-breaking U.S. heatwaves.
